LYNCHBURG LOCATION This state-approved 2-day course is required if you are going to carry a handgun during the course of your DCJS duties. Total: 16 hours (classroom + range). Please note: This is a 2 day course (same hours the next day).
The course will contain firearms and range safety, loading and reloading, mechanical failure, practical firearm handling, fundamentals of shooting, and shooting positions. You will need 100 rounds (60 for qualification and 40 for practice) a firearm, belt with directional draw holster (i.e. one that is worn on the same side of the body as the shooting hand) and three magazines. The minimum passing score is 75%. You must qualify with the same type action and caliber you will carry on duty.
